Ace
A brilliant one shot hit to the hole.

Address
Stance taken before hitting.

Back Nine
The second 9 holes of the 18 hole course divided into two.

Backswing
The swing taken before the impact.

Ball
Obviously the ball that you play with which is made of synthetic rubber in recent times.

Birdie
Hitting in one score under par in one hole where you might end up in 54 out of 72, if you hit birdie all the 18 holes.

Bogey
Finding the hole in one stroke over par.

Bunker
A sand trap where you cannot hit, and getting the ball out of the trap results in high scores over par and penalty.

Caddie
An assistant who carries the clubs and the kit and assists you on several things during play.

Cart
Called either as a golf cart or a golf buggy (widely as golf cart), this vehicle transports you and your equipment along on the course.

Casual Water
Puddles that might have accumulated from rain or other sources which do not mean penalty, if the balls fall in after a hit.

Chip Shot and Chip-and-run
Played in the green to hit the ball into the hole with very little club swing and trajectory. Chip-and-run is the ball moving a little after the pitch on the ground.

Closed Face and Stance
Closing the Face of the Club towards yourself is called Closed Face and Closed Stance means to keep your front foot near the target line to avoid slicing of the ball.

Club
The long stick that you hit the ball with.

Club Head
The head at the bottom end of the Club which helps you hit the ball.

Course
The golf course where you play the game.

Cup
The cup which holds the flag in the hole.

Cut Shot
A hit that sees no roll of the ball and the ball stops abruptly on the place of the pitch.

Dimple
The circular indentations on the ball scientifically designed for a good flight.

Double Bogey
Hitting two over par.

Double Eagle
Scoring three under par for one hole.

Downswing
The movement from the backswing till hitting.

Drive
Hitting the ball to high trajectory and maximum flight with a driver.

Driver
The lengthiest of the clubs used for long distance hitting.

Eagle
Hitting one hole in two strokes under par.

Extra Hole
Playing one extra hole for breaking ties.

Face
The face of the club that hits the golf ball.

Fairway
The vast space between the tee and the green where you play midway.

Fairway Wood
A wooden club or metal club that is not used to drive from a fairway lie.
Flagstick
The stick with the Flag on top that marks a hole.

Flex
The flexibility of the shaft that helps flight of the ball.

Fore
Warning for people to move away or hide from the approaching ball which might injure you.

Forecaddie
Marks the position of the ball.

Free Drop
No penalty for a drop such as from the Casual Water.

Front side
The first nine holes of the 18 hole course.

Goose-neck
A curvy necked club.

Green
The putting surface.
Greenside
The place very next to the putting.

Groove
Lines on a clubface.

Halved
When both sides play a hole in the same number of shots.

Handicap
The scores above par where low-handicap means a better player and high-handicap means a poor player.

Hazard
Water, grass Bunkers and Sand Traps that causes penalty.
